Moonrise Kingdom (2012)

The biggest factor when determining how fullfilled I am with a movie going experience is often my expectations going into the film. It seems that a film often doesn’t meet expectations when you have spent the previous six months obsessing about how great it’s going to be (even if it’s a masterpiece). In contrast, the film might be terrible, but the anticipation was such an exciting
venture that the audience lies to theirself, believing that they are satisfied.

While preparing to see “Moonrise Kingdom,”  a worry came over me. I was  thinking that My level  of excitment for this film was way too high, making it impossible to meet the expectations I had placed upon it. I was completely wrong. The film follows an intelligent young boyscout knock-off wilderness adolescent as he runs away from camp to meet his secret love, another runaway.  “Moonrise” comedically and dramatically gives the kids an outlandish level of adult maturity , while giving the adults in the film an unrealistic level of immaturity. This quirky, hilarious, emotional, and many times touching piece
of art cinema, reminds me of where my film fanaticism came from originally.

The director, Wes Anderson (Fantastic Mr. Fox, Rushmore),  has always kept a certain aesthetic to his work that was bordering on tiresome, but this shows that his best work may be yet to come.
